A salute to Provo Airport firefighters

A salute to Provo Airport firefighters

firefighters day

As International Firefighters Day is being observed around the world today, a salute is in order for firefighters manning the Providenciales International and other airports within the Turks and Caicos Islands. Dozens of dedicated and committed firefighters maintain watch at the country’s airports.

May 4th has been set aside annually to observe International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) to reflect, recognize and honor the sacrifices that firefighters make to keep their communities and environment as safe as possible.

Airport firefighters dedicate their lives to protect life and property, performing a critical role in the aviation sector. Firefighters maintain their preparedness by engaging in repeated training and drills.

In a show gratitude, blue and red ribbons pinned together were worn or displayed, symbolizing the internationally recognized colors of the emergency service – red for fire and blue for water.

A “Sound Off” in respect of past and present firefighters is planned for Sunday May 7th at noon. This is a special time to stop and reflect on the sacrifices made by firefighters by sounding sirens for 30 seconds followed by a minute’s silence in memory of, and respect for, all firefighters who have been lost in the line of duty or passed on.
