interCaribbean to commence twice-weekly flights to Guyana

Turks and Caicos Islands based airline, interCaribbean has filed paperwork with the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority to begin flight operations into Guyana.

The regional airline plans to operate twice weekly flights into Guyana from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands via Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic beginning on July 1st.

interCaribbean Airways first expressed interest in the Guyana market two years ago when officials from the company visited Guyana. A senior aviation official in Guyana said that the airline officially filed their application for air services to Guyana in 2019.

interCaribbean operates a fleet of 2 Embraer 145 regional jets and 7 Embraer 120 turboprop aircraft on a vast network of routes throughout the Caribbean.

The air operator began in 1991 as Inter Island Airways Charter Service. In 2003 the airline was renamed Air Turks & Caicos, and ten years later was rebranded at interCaribbean Airways.

As part of the application process, the local aviation authority has advertised the airline’s intention and is inviting members of the public to make representations and/or objections to the application by March 6th.

interCaribbean’s planned operations comes on the heels of new entrants JetBlue and Eastern Airlines which are scheduled to start flights in the coming months.
